Crime bites: Man arrested for murder and kidnapping

Sbongile Nonyana presents the latest crime news from across South Africa. 

Potchefstroom – A 29-year-old man was arrested for the murder and kidnapping of 26-year-old Nomsa Jass, who went missing on 25 August after leaving work in Potchefstroom. Her decomposed body was found in bushes along the R501 road at Blybank in Carletonville. The suspect, from Mozambique, has been charged with murder, kidnapping, and robbery. He appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court last week.

Hlogotlou – Police are searching for suspects involved in the murder of a 29-year-old man who was beaten by community members accusing him of theft. Although the police rescued him, he later died in hospital.

Polokwane – A 28-year-old man was arrested for the murder and kidnapping of a 63-year-old pensioner in Polokwane. The suspect burned the victim’s body, buried it, and later scattered the remains. He was arrested in Sunnyside, Pretoria, on 5 September and appeared in the Motetema Magistrate’s Court on 9 September. The crime happened in July 2022.

Bushbuckridge – A community policing forum member was arrested for removing a gun from a murder scene where a 35-year-old woman was shot and killed. He was charged with defeating the ends of justice and possession of an illegal firearm. He appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Kimberley – Three armed robbers were arrested in Kimberley after attempting to rob a liquor store in Boshof, Free State. The store owner escaped, causing the suspects to flee. Police found the robbers in possession of a 9mm gun, ammunition, balaclavas, and grinders. The suspects will appear in court soon.

Komatipoort – A 37-year-old taxi driver was arrested at the Lebombo border with 50 kg of heroin. The drugs were hidden in a black plastic bag in the taxi’s trailer. The suspect will appear in Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court soon.
