Crime bites: Man arrested for fatally shooting his girlfriend

Sbongile Nonyana presents the latest crime news from across South Africa. 

Ramotshinyadi – Limpopo police arrested a 35-year-old man after he allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend at Ramotshinyadi village. The victim, 35, was found with several gunshot wounds at a neighbour’s house. The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested and is facing charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is set to appear before the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Bloemfontein – Police are asking for the public’s help to find Mamokete Jeminah Koloti in connection with serious crimes, including kidnapping, robbery, impersonating a police officer and extortion. The 49-year-old woman is accused of crimes that took place on Thursday, 20 June, at Chief Moroka Crescent.

Mphephu – A 58-year-old man was arrested by Mphephu police in Limpopo for allegedly hacking his son, 33, to death with a spade. The horrific incident happened on Thursday last week at Maulama village. The victim was found with a deep head wound and was certified dead at the scene. Angry community members assaulted the suspect before the police arrived. He is set to appear before the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on Monday for murder.

Kagisanong – Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the body of a woman found in open veld near the R702 road. The upper half of the woman’s naked body had been burned, and she had a stab wound on her inner left thigh and bruises on her right thigh. The body was found at about 10am on Saturday.

Carolina – A 22-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after she was allegedly set alight by her boyfriend, 34, who had poured a flammable liquid on her. A case of attempted murder was opened at the Carolina police station. The accused appeared before the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Welkom – Three men were sentenced to 73 years in jail on Monday by the Bloemfontein High Court. The trio, Dumisani Khumalo, 38, Thobane Chaiphus Khuzwayo, 48, and Ndlandla Sijele Sithole, 51, were convicted of shooting at security guards delivering money to an ATM. They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and a firearm. The incident occurred in November 2021.
