Crime bites: Four arrested for extorting money from doctor

Botshabelo – The Mangaung district extortion task team arrested four suspects on Friday, 11 October, for extorting money from a local doctor. Three suspects were arrested at a mall, and the fourth was arrested the same day in Botshabelo. They appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on 14 October.

Bushbuckridge – Mpumalanga police arrested Lesedi Mokone, 26, for stabbing a 25-year-old man at a local tavern. The victim later died in hospital. The incident happened on 5 October. Mokone appeared before the Bushbuckridge Magistrates’ Court on 7 October, facing a murder charge.

Mankweng – The body of a University of Limpopo student was found by campus security at a Gate 1 residence. The student’s identity has not been revealed as the family is yet to be notified. Police are investigating the cause of death.

KaNyamazane – A businesswoman who runs a waste management company is living in fear after being targeted by extortionists. She has been threatened, assaulted, and had her property destroyed by criminals, with goods worth over R500,000 being looted. Police are searching for the suspects.

Mokopane – Limpopo police arrested a 54-year-old man after he was caught driving a stolen Toyota Fortuner. The driver was stopped on Sunday along the N1 North freeway between Kranskop Plaza and Nyl Plaza. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier this month in Garsfontein, Pretoria West. The suspect will soon appear in the Mokopane Magistrates’ Court.

Tonga – Mpumalanga police seek the public’s help in finding three-year-old Amanda Precious Ngomane. She was last seen on 17 September. Two men and a woman reportedly abducted her in a white bakkie.

Thohoyandou – Police are investigating a house robbery after a nurse was attacked in her home in Muraga village. The woman was asleep when intruders entered her bedroom and woke her up with a flashlight. They stole money, a smart TV, cellphones, and a backup battery. The incident happened on 9 October.
