Court Orders Kidnapper To Pay Victim R30,000 As Compensation
The Welkom Magistrate’s Court has issued an order for Molefi Johannes Qosheka, 45, to pay the woman he abducted in 2018 a compensation fee.
The court ordered Qosheka to pay a sum of R30,000 by the end of this month. In addition, Qosheka has been given a five-year prison sentence, which has been completely suspended.

Qosheka appeared before the court on Wednesday, facing charges related to kidnapping, extortion, possession of unwrought precious metal, and money laundering.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Zweli Mohobeleli, the spokesperson for the Hawks in the Free State, the victim is the wife of a mine manager in Welkom.
She was abducted in November 2018 by Qosheka and his accomplices, who demanded a ransom for her release. After a hostage situation that lasted over 12 hours, the woman was eventually released.
Mohobeleli stated that a multidisciplinary team, consisting of members from the Welkom serious organized crime investigation unit and other relevant parties, apprehended the accused and others involved after a three-day search operation.
The woman’s vehicle, as well as a Nissan Tiida used to transport her to their hideout, were subsequently recovered.
Brigadier Xolani Matroos, the acting Free State provincial head of the Hawks, commended the law enforcement team’s efforts in handling the case.

Matroos expressed satisfaction with the court’s lack of tolerance towards individuals engaged in organized crime, specifically those who target and hold vulnerable individuals hostage.
Matroos emphasized that anyone who infringes upon the rights of others through kidnapping and attempts to extort money will face arrest.
