A 33-year-old teacher was arrested for dealing drugs in Polokwane.
He faces charges of dealing drugs, possession of drugs and possessing an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the arrest happened during patrols in the Capricorn district’s hotspots on Thursday afternoon last week.
“Police received information about a silver VW Polo suspected of distributing and selling drugs in Polokwane CBD.
“They found the car at General Piet Joubert and Rissik streets, searched it and discovered money, drugs worth R20,000 and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition,” he said.
The suspect was arrested, and his car was impounded.
He will appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon, and police investigations are ongoing.
Ledwaba said the Limpopo Flying Squad is increasing its efforts against illegal drug activities.
Provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe said there is a need for harsh measures against teachers involved in drugs.
“Such educators cannot be trusted with our children’s education. We call for the [education] department to remove them from the system and payroll,” he said.
