Western Cape police made a major arrest in Laingsburg on Tuesday after stopping a truck carrying drugs worth over R1-million on its way to Cape Town.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said officers were given a tip about the on the N1 Highway.
They stopped the truck near Station Road at around 11.50pm and found drugs hidden in lunch boxes inside the cabin.
The driver was arrested for drug dealing and will appear in the Laingsburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
Zama Nkasela, a resident of Cape Town, praised the police for catching drug dealers and said the community needs to help by reporting those who sell drugs.
“SAPS can’t do this alone. Drugs are ruining people’s lives, and we need to help stop it,” she said.
Another resident, who wanted to stay anonymous, said drugs are a big cause of crime.
“Many people break the law because they are drug users. If we stop protecting drug dealers and report them, we can make our communities safer,” the resident said.
