Controversial Kamara Dropped From Squad To Face Bafana

Bafana Bafana opponents Sierra Leone have suspended controversial striker Musa Kamara, who was close to a trial at Kaizer Chiefs earlier in the window.

Kamara, 22, had been subject of major transfer speculation over the past 12 months after several impressive seasons in his homeland with Bo Rangers.

Kaizer Chiefs were among the potential suitors when he stated his contract was set to expire, but Rangers disputed it and a scheduled assessment at Naturena during the off-season was cancelled.

The striker then went AWOL as he looked to force a move and in the process, he agreed to join Libyan giants Al-Ittihad, who will be competing in the CAF Champions League this season, on a free transfer.

However, there seems to be more controversy around his move, leading to the Sierra Leone FA to temporarily suspend the player.

“The Sierra Leone Football Association would like to inform the general public that it has noted with keen interest the numerous controversies surrounding Leone Stars striker Musa Noah “Tombo” Kamara, including but not limited to his recent alleged breach of contract in Libya,” the SFA said via a statement.

“In a bid to effect sanity into the said matter, the FA has taken a decision to temporarily suspend Musa Noah Kamara from participating in all SLFA sanctioned and affiliated competitions in Sierra Leone.

“Meanwhile, SLFA is gathering more information on the said matter including details on Musa’s status under the Libyan FA to inform the Federation’s next line of action.”

Sierra Leone will face Bafana in a friendly match on 24 September at 14:30.
