Connie Ferguson celebrates daughter Lesedi’s birthday with touching labour room memory

Veteran actress and producer Connie Ferguson marked her daughter Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson’s birthday with a deeply personal tribute that took fans down memory lane to the night she gave birth on New Year’s Eve.

Sharing a photo of Lesedi on Instagram, Connie reflected on the dramatic moments leading up to her daughter’s arrival on 31 December 1992, revealing that while most people were preparing to welcome the new year, she was locked in a tense back-and-forth with nurses at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Connie recounted how medical staff initially believed she was not yet in labour and suggested she go home, advice she firmly rejected.

“I knew you would show yourself at any moment! And as moms usually are, I was right!” she wrote.

According to the actress, Lesedi was born at 21:15 and arrived quietly, a moment that briefly filled her with fear before being replaced by overwhelming relief.

“You arrived in silence, scaring the hell out of me, only to give the most glorious cry I have ever heard after a short while,” Connie shared.

Now 33 years later, Connie described her daughter as much more than just her child, calling her a “drama queen,” her light, her friend and confidant, and ultimately her most cherished New Year’s gift.

She ended the message with a heartfelt prayer for Lesedi’s future, asking for divine protection, guidance and blessings, and signing off with affectionate words that melted hearts across social media.

“My baby, my favourite New Year’s present… I love you my Sedii! Happy birthday, Pumpkin.”
