Le Havre head coach Luka Elsner, who worked with Percy Tau before, has confirmed the Ligue 2 side are “in talks” with the Bafana Bafana international and his club Al Ahly.
Tau and Elsner worked together at Royal Union Saint Galloise, where the 28-year-old won the Proximus League Player of the Season in his sole campaign under the 40-year-old Slovenian before he went on to represent Club Brugge and Anderlecht in the Jupiler Pro League in the two years that followed.
Elsner is now in charge of Le Havre and confirmed that his club have made an official offer to loan the South African winger from Al Ahly for the 2022/23 season but time is running out with the French window closing today.
“We have spoken with Tau and there is an official offer that we made to Al-Ahly Club,” Elsner told Btolat, as per Goal.

“But the deal is not easy at all, due to his lack of time before the end of the summer transfer market [closes] and negotiations with Al Ahly [are ongoing].”
Elsner also expressed his desire to reunite with Tau, but insisted the matter is out of his hands as both clubs need to find an agreement.
“This is what I learned, but as a coach, I do not interfere in financial matters between clubs,” he added.
“We worked together for a season in Belgium, Percy is a very great player, I loved working with him and I want it to be repeated with Le Havre.”
Tau’s loan move would have to be completed on Deadline Day today, before the French transfer window closes.
