Confirmed: Malesela Not At Royal AM Game

Dan Malesela is a notable absentee from the Royal AM bench today, as the KwaZulu-Natal-based club are aiming to progress in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Earlier this week, iDiski Times reported that Malesela was not happy with the set-up at the KZN outfit and was said to be disillusioned by the recent inclusion of Chairman Andile Mpisane in the matchday squad.

Sources close to Royal AM indicated that the 57-year-old has resigned from his role as co-coach but he’s denied it stating he’s set to meet President Shauwn Mkhize on Wednesday over reported family issues.

There had been no update from the club since, but Malesela had indicated he would return to the bench for Friday’s match against Eswatini side Highlanders.

However, iDiski Times sources have stated Malesela left on his own accord and it is not at the game today that kicks off at 16h00. Malesela and Khabo Zondo were expected in the stands again as they don’t have the required CAF licences but Malesela is not at the stadium this afternoon.

The first leg ended goalless, meaning Thwihli Thwahla need a win to secure their ticket to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confed Cup.

Malesela and Gallants parted ways back in June after he guided the club to the Nedbank Cup final and retained their top-flight status. He has been linked with a surprise return to the club after the departure of Romain Folz, but all involved parties have stayed mum on the situation – for now at least.
