South Africa’s Bafana Bafana are in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) Round of 16 against Cameroon.

The match is set for Sunday, 4 January at 21:00 (SA time) at Al Medina Stadium in Rabat.

SABC Sport has confirmed the match will be broadcast live on SABC 2.

ROAD TO THE AFCON LAST 16

Hugo Broos’ South Africa are at least 90 minutes away from the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals.

South Africa reached the final 16 after a somewhat laboured group stage.

Bafana Bafana finished second in Group B with a 2-1 win over Angola, a 1-0 loss to Egypt, and a 3-2 victory over Zimbabwe.

Oswin Appollis and Lyle Foster stoodout with two goals each against Angola and Zimbabwe, respectively. In defence, Orlando Pirates’ starboy Mbekezeli Mbokazi once again earned wide praise.

BAFANA BAFANA VS CAMEROON: A QUICK LOOK AT HISTORY

Mzansi holds a favourable record against Cameroon. The two nations have met nine times in total: South Africa with three wins, Cameroon with just one victory, and the other five matches ending in draws.

A significant chapter in the rivalry dates back to July 1992, when Cameroon was Bafana Bafana’s first international opponent after South Africa’s readmission to world football following the end of apartheid.

In Durban on 7 July 1992, South Africa won 1-0. Just two days later in Cape Town, Cameroon earned their only win in the fixture, a 2-1 friendly victory.

Bafana Bafana remains undefeated against Cameroon in competitive matches, including a memorable 3-0 victory in the opening game of the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament South Africa went on to win.

Recent clashes, including qualifiers for AFCON 2017, have been tight, with the last three meetings all ending in draws.

Interestingly, during those 2016 qualifiers, Broos was the head coach of Cameroon, adding another layer to this Sunday’s showdown.

With SABC 2 ready to bring the action live, Bafana Bafana fans across the country can tune in to back South Africa.
