Confirmed: Chiefs Withdraw From Court Case Against PSL

Kaizer Chiefs have officially withdrawn from their case against the National Soccer League (NSL) which was scheduled to be heard on Tuesday.

Amakhosi had won the arbitration case over their two December fixtures against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows after the SAFA arbitrator, advocate Nazeer Cassim ruled in their favour.

However, the NSL had appealed the decision and taken the matter to the Johannesburg High Court where it was supposed to be heard on Tuesday.

Amid the off-the-field battles though, the NSL had rescheduled the fixtures in question and the Glamour Boys had lost both, 1-2 to Golden Arrows and 1-2 to Cape Town City.

Even, though, the club’s Commercial and Marketing Director Jessica Motaung confirmed last week that Chiefs would still argue the case in court – a decision, which the club have reverted since.

However, the club have since changed their stance, as the High Court confirmed to TimesLIVE that Chiefs had withdrawn its opposition to the NSL’s application.

“This office received written notification from the parties on May 6 at 4.32 pm advising that Kaizer Chiefs FC had withdrawn its opposition to the National Soccer League’s urgent review application,” Antoinette du Toit, the judge’s secretary, told TimesLIVE via email.

“In light of the above, the virtual court hearing for tomorrow [Tuesday] has been cancelled.”

Chiefs, though, are likely to still hear from the PSL prosecutor, Zola Majavu, who could rule that City and Arrows will receive 3-0 wins, which will only affect the goal difference of all clubs involved.

In addition, Amakhosi may also face a fine but they are also still entangled in another case with the PSL DC, after allegedly having two unregistered players in their squad when they beat Sekhukhune United 2-0 in December.
