  • Lazarus Lito Anthonio, who confessed to murdering his ex-girlfriend, has abandoned his bail application.
  • He also faces charges of attempted murder and violating a protection order.
  • The case has been postponed to 17 October 2025 for further investigation.

Self-confessed murderer Lazarus Lito Anthonio (26) remains in custody after abandoning his bail application. He briefly appeared before the Temba Magistrates’ Court in Hammanskraal on Friday.

Anthonio stands accused of the brutal murder of his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend, Kgaogelo Marota, and the attempted murder of his current 20-year-old girlfriend.

In addition to these charges, the State has added a count of contravening a protection order that had been issued against him.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, a protection order was granted by the Temba Magistrates’ Court on 12 August 2025, prohibiting Anthonio from abusing or approaching Marota.

“However, on 21 August 2025—just 10 days later—the accused allegedly went to Dubai Tavern in Maubane Village, where the ex-girlfriend was socializing with a friend, and stabbed her. He then returned to his residence, where he allegedly attempted to kill his current girlfriend,” said Mahanjana.

The case has been postponed to 17 October 2025 for further investigation.
