Heartfelt condolences continue to pour in as the gospel fraternity mourns the passing of renowned pastor, Dr Simon ‘SD’ Gumbi.

The gospel giant who was known for his iconic phrase, “u-Amen usekhona?” passed away earlier this week at the age of 66, following a long illness.

Dr SD gained popularity in the 1990s with his popular and spirit-filled sermons on Ukhozi FM’s Sunday night show Unkulunkulu Nomuntu Omusha, where he ministered to millions of listeners across South Africa. His prominence, sermons and powerful voice touched people’s hearts, earning him loyal support both on air and in church settings.

Spiritual Feast by Dr SD and Joy Family Church both announced Dr SD’s death on Facebook. His church, Spiritual Feast, described him as a spiritual general, a compassionate leader and a prophetic voice.

“It is with deep sorrow and reverence that Spiritual Feast, a faith based organisation founded and led by Dr SD Gumbi, announces the passing of our beloved founder and spiritual father, Dr SD Gumbi who was called to glory on the evening of July 14, 2025,” read the statement.
