Clear-out at Kaizer Chiefs continues

Kaizer Chiefs’ clear-out continued with the club announcing the exit of defender Sibusiso Mabiliso after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Mabiliso joined Chiefs at the beginning of last season but failed to cement a starting position during the tenure of both Stuart Baxter and Arthur Zwane. The 23-year-old only managed to make six appearances.

“The former youth international has been given his clearance and is now free to join a Club of his choice. We thank Sbu for his contribution and wish him well for the future,” the club announced.

Mabiliso’s exit is also prompted by the arrival of Mozambique international Edmilson Gabriel Dove to the Chiefs team ahead of the new season. The 28-year-old was signed on a two-year deal with a further one-year option.

Another player expected to leave Chiefs is left-footed centre-back, Austin Dube. Dube has also struggled for game time at Amakhosi since joining at the beginning of the season.

Dube has managed 17 appearances in all competitions. His former club Richards Bay are believed to be interested in his services, with talks expected to be concluded in the next few days.

Currently, Amakhosi have more than 12 defenders in their squad. They have Eric Mathoho, Happy Mashiane, Sfiso Hlanti, Njabulo Ngcobo, Siyabonga Ngezana, Njabulo Blom, Edmilson Dove, Zitha Kwinika, Thabo Mokoena, Dube, Reeve Frosler and Aiden McCarthy.

The club conceded 26 goals in the past season. This is 11 goals less than they conceded during the 2020/21 season, where they finished at position eight.

Meanwhile, according to a report by SABC Sport, Burundian international striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana is expected to return to South Africa to conclude a deal with Chiefs.

Bimenyimana, who had spent about three weeks on trial with Amakhosi during the pre-season, returned home just before the season started but had already started negotiations with the club.
