Cape Town City’s Congolese defender Nathan Fasika is said to be itching to play against his country’s ‘neighbours’ AS Otoho on Saturday.

Fasika hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo whose neighbours are Congo Brazzaville where AS Otoho come from.

In view of this, City public relations officer Julian Bailey said Fasika was looking forward to the CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg game.

FASIKA PLEASED TO PLAY AT HOME

Bailey said they have been getting some insight from Fasika about what to City can expect from AS Otoho at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

“We have a player from Congo. He was very happy to get to play in his own country [in the return leg] with his club. Nathan Fasika is from Congo, so for us it is not too bad of a draw [in terms of getting insight into the opposition,” Bailey said.

He said they have done some research on their opponents and now realise that apart from the technical point of view, they also need to get ready logistically.

The media officer said City has also researched on the Champions League matches AS Otoho played against Mamelodi Sundowns in 2019.

The Congolese side defeated the Thswane outfit 2-1 at home then lost 4-0 in South Africa in the preliminary round matches of the 2019 edition of the continental football showpiece.

Meanwhile, AS Otoho arrived in Cape Town on Thursday afternoon and trained in the evening.

The overall winner between City and AS Otoho will date either Black Bulls FC of Mozambique or Petro Atletico from Angola.

Other notable fixtures in the Champions League feature Zamalek versus Elect-Sport from Chad, Tanzania’s Simba take on Malawi champions Nyasa Bullets.

First round games will take place at home on the weekend of September 9 then away on the weekend of 16 2022.

This will be followed by the second round scheduled for the weekend of October 7 at home and October 14 in the reverse fixture.

Wydad Casablanca of Morocco are the defending champions of the continental league title.
