City Rovers threaten to move away from North West

Platinum City Rovers Chairman Tyzer Temo says the club will permanently move away from North West province if the lack of support continues.

City Rovers are the only professional football club based in that province currently. They play their home matches at Olen Park Stadium in Potchefstroom.

The club recently announced that they will play their next few matches at Wits Stadium in Gauteng.

It turns out the move might be permanent.

Temo has expressed his displeasure regarding the lack of support by the provincial authorities in the North West.

WHY CITY ROVERS WANT TO MOVE

“The support from that province is not that much because I don’t think those people are football people hence I moved most of my games to Wits,” he said.

“We are going to start playing at Wits this Friday. If we are not getting support, we will do so.

“Because football belongs to poor people and our stadiums are in town.

“And it’s difficult for the supporters to come to Town.

“We proposed to the government and municipality that if we can get a stadium in the location it will accommodate us and it seems they failing to do that.”

WHAT TEMBO SAYS ON MARUMO DEAL

Temo also claims the newly formed marriage between Marumo Gallants and the North West province doesn’t include money.

“No, it can not be. I don’t think there was money involved. That one I am 100% sure. It can not be,” added Temo.

Gallants recently claimed that their decision to move their DStv Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs to Royal Bafokeng Stadium was motivated by an offer by the sports department in that province.

In an affidavit filed at the Limpopo High court, Gallants claimed that the department paid them R 3.5 million to move the match to Rustenburg.

The matches that City Rovers have moved to Johannesburg are against Pretoria Callies on Friday, 14 October and against Magesi on 30 October.
