A 64-year-old woman from Kraaifontein, Cape Town, was shot dead last month. The killers haven’t been caught yet, so the city is offering R100,000 for information leading to their arrest.
The suspects are Siyabonga Kholakele, 29, and Yanele Mangweni, 32.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie, said the victim was killed on 20 August at around 7.30pm at the corner of Maroela and Ntongabini Streets in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein.
“Preliminary information gathered revealed that two suspects approached the victim under the pretext of purchasing meat from her. They allegedly followed the victim into her shack, where the deceased was shot in the head,” said Pojie.
The suspects ran away.
“Tracking and tracing operations are part of the initiatives taken by police to trace the suspects. A reward of up to R100,000 is offered for information that might lead to the arrest and the successful prosecution of the suspects,” Pojie added.
A resident, who didn’t want to be named, said the woman had been selling meat on that street corner for years.
“I hope they get arrested and spend their entire lives in jail,” the resident said. “There was no need for them to kill someone who was trying to put food on the table for her family. I heard they were asking for a protection fee, and she told them she didn’t have money.”
