Chymamusique has opened up about the financial toll of his recovery following a serious car accident that claimed his friend’s life.

The award-winning producer and DJ revealed that he is currently spending around R15,000 a month on medical expenses after undergoing multiple surgeries.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, Chymamusique shared that he had recently been discharged from hospital after emergency brain surgery.

He announced that all his upcoming performances have been cancelled indefinitely while he focuses on recovery.

“Cancelling all work. What a summer. What’s the best way to pass time? I don’t want to be idle, because an idle mind is the devil’s playground,” he wrote in an Instagram story.

The Don’t Wait Till I’m Gone hitmaker added that he has temporarily turned to selling branded t-shirts and hoodies as a source of income while he heals.

“This is what I currently do for a living: selling t-shirts and hoodies. All my businesses are paused until I recover,” he explained.

Chymamusique went on to reveal that his monthly medical costs, including prescriptions, copayments, and check-ups,  amount to roughly R15,000.

Although he clarified that his situation is not dire, he said many fans encouraged him to start a donation campaign.

“Situation isn’t that bad, but medical scripts and medical copayments will want +/-15k per month, including check-ups and medical aid, etc. By popular demand, I was asked to open a BackaBuddy account,” he shared.

He later announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he had officially launched a R200,000 BackaBuddy fundraiser to help ease the financial strain, revealing that he has already undergone six surgeries and still faces two more.

“By popular demand, I was asked to open this BackABuddy campaign to reduce a bit of load when it comes to medical bills, do it voluntarily,” he wrote.

Since opening up, fans and fellow artists have rallied behind the musician, sharing his campaign link and offering heartfelt messages of encouragement as he continues his road to recovery.
