Chippa Release Statement On Alleged FIFA Ban

Chippa United have released a statement, refuting they have received a transfer ban from FIFA.

Earlier on Wednesday, Johhny Ogbah, the agent of former Chippa striker Augustine Kwem, had told local media that Chippa have been banned from signing and registering players.

The 24-year-old striker, who joined TS Galaxy from the Chilli Boys ahead of the season, took Chippa to FIFA after they failed to pay an outstanding R200 000 of his signing-on fee.

However, Chippa have refuted the accuracy of those remarks, saying the matter will be resolved “within the coming week” and the club will be able to make transfers in the upcoming window.

“Without getting into further details, we condemn the agent of Kwem, who clearly had a hand in leaking this information, whereas the club has done all in its power to resolve matters amicable,” the Easter Cape-based side said in a statement.

“As a matter of fact, the matter stemmed from the transfer of Kwem from Chippa United FC to TS Galaxy FC, where the player ostensibly was happy to forfeit the remainder of his contract to move to a new team, only for him a year later to ignore all local dispute resolution platforms, including the PSL and SAFA and went straight to FIFA, without giving our club an opportunity to ventilate the matter locally.

“In summary, we reassure our supporters and fans that the club will participate in normal transfer activity and we are 100% focused on collecting maximum points in our next match against Swallows FC to stay clear of relegation.

“We condemn the one sided nature of the relevant article and intend to further take up the disrespect of our local dispute resolution forums with the PSL and SAFA, and will take legal advice on the content of the relevant article.”
