Chippa confirm the appointment of a new coach

Chippa United have confirmed the appointment of a new coach ahead of the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League season. The Chilli Boys survived relegation on the last day of the DStv Premiership last season.

They finished 14th on the log, tied on 30 points with Maritzburg United. Chippa had a superior goal difference.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the club confirmed the return of coach Morgan Mammila, Mammila returns to the club after having been shown the door last season due to poor results.

MORGAN MAMMILA RETURNS TO CHILLI BOYS

“We’re thrilled to appoint Morgan Mammila as our new Head Coach,” the club said in a statement.

“Mammila brings an abundance of experience and proven leadership to the role. We also confirm that Siyabulela Gwambi will maintain his post as First Assistant Coach. His unwavering dedication to the club is highly valued, and we trust in his abilities to continue our forward momentum.”

Surprisingly, Mammila announced his intentions to retire from coaching after he was fired by the club. A few days later Mammila was announced as the technical advisor at Swallows FC until the end of last season.

He has now been recalled to spearhead the Chilli Boys to a top 8 position as well as winning a Cup title. 

“The pursuit of top-eight positions and cup victories will be entrusted to the capable hands of our new head coach,” the club said. 

“As long as we maintain our status in the PSL, we trust in our team’s ability to deliver exceptional football. Looking ahead, we promise an exciting transfer window period with the signing of some notable players.

“We aim to strengthen our team and provide our supporters with thrilling matches to enjoy,” read the statement. 

“In conclusion, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our management team, guided by our Executive Director, Mr Lukanyo Mzinzi. We also wish to thank our sponsor, the Nelson Mandela Municipality, for their unwavering support. Their support has been instrumental in our journey thus far.”
