Chippa United’s Technical Director Morgan Mammila has attempted to give clarity on the technical team situation at the club, insisting he can not confirm whether Daine Klate was fired.
Mammila rejoined the club in the beginning of the week after working as CEO for All Stars FC, the former Cape Town All Stars.
He was already listed as assistant coach on the bench when Klate led his side to a 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, a day before he was sacked by the coach, as reported by iDiski Times.
Klate himself and his agent confirmed he was verbally relieved of his duties and in the absence of any official statement from the club, Klate was not on the team sheet for their clash with AmaZulu, with Siyabulela Gwambi named as head coach.
However, Mammila, who was also named as assistant on the team sheet, insisted that Gwambi and himself are only standing in.
“Siya Gwambi is also an assistant, it’s just a misprint, the team hasn’t appointed a head coach,” he told SuperSport TV.

“I was called last week, if I’m not mistaken Monday, to help administratively, but unfortunately I was called to come and help on the bench, which is what I’m doing.
“The coach was Daine Klate, of course, and the gentleman has laid a foundation in this team and we just have to take it where he left and continue.”
Mammila also insisted that it is not his place to comment on Klate’s situation.
“We were just asked to stand in for this match,” he added.
“I won’t even say the coach has been fired, it’s not on my mandate to say that. The only thing I can say is that we were asked to come and help for this match.”
