Chiefs star Velebayi finally opens up after turbulent transfer saga

Kaizer Chiefs winger Asanele Velebayi has opened up about the difficult journey that led to his move to the Soweto giants.

The 23-year-old’s transfer from Cape Town Spurs to Amakhosi was delayed last year following a contract dispute between the two clubs.

Spurs initially attempted to claim a transfer fee, but their relegation ultimately allowed Velebayi to move freely in accordance with National Soccer League regulations.

Looking back, Velebayi admitted the period was challenging but insists he is eager to put the saga behind him.

Velebayi finally a Chiefs player

“I have always wanted to play for this club,” Velebayi told GOAL.

“I am just grateful to finally be here. I don’t want to speak too much about what happened in the past with the legal stuff. I’m just happy that my move finally happened.”

The winger revealed that the uncertainty took an emotional toll, not only on himself but also on his family.

“It was a tough moment, not only for me but for my family as well,” he added.

Despite the challenges, Velebayi said he remained focused and committed to his goal of joining Chiefs.

“I would like to compliment myself for staying focused, staying fit, and making sure I was ready because I didn’t know what the outcome was going to be,” he said. “I wanted to come to Chiefs, so mentally I made sure I stayed strong, kept fit, and didn’t allow myself to be distracted. Now it has finally happened, and I’m here.”

Will Velebayi shine at Amakhosi?
