Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove was sent off in the first half of his side’s 3-2 defeat to Nigeria.

The two teams who have both qualified for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations met each other in a friendly match at the Estádio Municipal de Albufeira (Albufeira) on Monday.

It was their first clash since 2014 when Nigeria won 4-2 at home and marked the fourth successive defeat of The Mambas against the Super Eagles.

Mozambique had drawn first blood via Geny Catamo in the seventh minute, but goals by Terem Moffi and Frank Onyeka in the 19th and 31st minute turned the game around.

Dove was shown a straight red card in the 39th minute, meaning The Mambas had to play for more than 50 minutes with one man less.

Nigeria capitalised on their advantage before the break already when Moses Simon made it 3-1 from the penalty spot.

Mozambique, though, didn’t fall over and even pulled one goal back in the second interval, with Faisal Abdul Bangal making it 3-2 in the 56th minute.

There weren’t any more goals, as both coaches used the second half to heavily rotate their squads.
