Chiefs reclaim top spot as Pirates drop points against AmaZulu
Kaizer Chiefs are back on top of the Betway Premiership after a convincing 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United, while Orlando Pirates were held to a 1-1 draw by AmaZulu FC.
Amakhosi produced a strong performance to secure maximum points and return to the summit. Chiefs created several chances before finally breaking the deadlock in the second half. Luke Baartman opened the scoring in the 63rd minute. Mduduzi Shabalala then sealed the victory with two minutes of normal time remaining. The result takes Chiefs to six points from their opening two matches.
Pirates, meanwhile, were left frustrated at Kings Park Stadium in Durban. The Buccaneers dominated large periods of the match against AmaZulu but failed to make their chances count. Yanela Mbuthuma was particularly unlucky, with several efforts failing to find the back of the net.
Pirates took the lead early in the first half through Tsepang Moremi. AmaZulu responded just before the break. Thando Ngwenya converted from the penalty spot after Kamogelo Sebelebele brought down an AmaZulu player inside the box.
The 1-1 draw means Pirates dropped two valuable points, while Chiefs took full advantage to reclaim top spot. The early title race is already heating up, with Amakhosi back at the summit and the Buccaneers left chasing.
