Chiefs & Pirates Starting XI Announced

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have confirmed their starting line-ups for the Soweto Derby in the Nedbank Cup semi-final at FNB Stadium this afternoon.

Amakhosi are two steps away from ending their eight-year trophy drought with a final against Stellenbosch FC or Sekhukhune United on the cards, should they win today’s derby.

The Glamour Boys last won silverware back in the 2014/15 season when they won the league title under coach Stuart Baxter.

Since the first era of Baxter, Chiefs came close to winning the Nedbank Cup in 2019 when they faced TS Galaxy in the final but the infamous last-minute penalty from Zakhele Lepasa sealed the Ke Yona trophy for the Rockets at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The last time Chiefs faced Pirates in the Nedbank Cup was back in 2016 when the Buccaneers were victorious 2-0. But Chiefs have had the upper hand in recent derbies, winning the last five successive clashes.

However, Pirates are unbeaten in nine games in a row in all competitions and are also sitting six points ahead of the Glamour Boys on the league table.

The Sea Robbers have won the Ke Yona Cup twice since it’s known as Nedbank Cup, beating Black Leopards 3-1 in 2010/11 and Bidvest Wits by the same scoreline in 2013/14.

They already secured a trophy this campaign, lifting the MTN 8 trophy.

Here is how they line up:

Chiefs XI: Petersen, Dove, Ngezana, Hlanti, Frosler, Solomons, Zwane, Maart, Sithebe, Du Preez, Saile.

Subs: Bvuma, Cole, Ngcobo, Kwinika, Matlou, Bimenyimana, Shabalala, Mashiane, Sekgota

Pirates XI: Chaine, Sibisi, Xoki, Shandu, Mako, Timm, Monare, Dlamini, Saleng, Erasmus, Dzvukamanja.
