Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are no doubt eyeing the signature of Bafana Bafana and Polokwane City right-back Thabang Matuludi.
The Buccaneers were believed to be interested in the talented defender last season and at one point it seemed as both he and Oswin Appollis were going to Mayfair.
Appollis joined the Sea Robbers in July but Matuludi stayed with Rise and Shine. He has continued to show his class and quality this season, which earned him a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad.
Why Kaizer Chiefs should pounce first on Bafana star
Amakhosi have three good right-backs but all of them are not as good as Matuludi. Reeve Frosler has spent nearly seven years with Amakhosi but in recent months, has not featured much for the Soweto giants. He might be on his way out of the club.
Dillan Solomons appeared to be down the pecking order but a few good games in the CAF Confederation Cup helped him get minutes and continues to impress Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.
Thabiso Monyane, who joined Chiefs in July, is likely to stay at Naturena.
In the latest Bafana Bafana squad, Hugo Broos did not select any Chiefs players, which highlights to the lack of quality in the team.
Matuluidi appears to be in Broos’ plans for the World Cup and that can elevate his price tag. Chiefs will need to act fast to sign the talented right-back.
Pirates are sorted at right-back thanks to the signing of Kamogelo Sebelebele. Deano van Rooyen and Thabiso Lebitso serve as backups and for now, they might not sign the Polokwane City star.
Sundowns, however, might bring Matuludi on board if Khuliso Mudau decides to leave. The Bafana right back remains one of the most consistent players in the PSL and it remains to be seen if Chiefs, Pirates or Sundowns can make an offer.
