Chiefs manager answers question on January signings

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are once again dealing with growing pressure to make signings, but the club’s Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, says Amakhosi are unaffected by the noise.

Bitter rivals Orlando Pirates have signed Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC despite topping the log and winning the MTN8 and Carling Knockout.

Mamelodi Sundowns, chasing close behind the Sea Robbers on the table, have made a massive transfer splash by signing Monnapule Saleng.

BOBBY MOTAUNG SAYS AMAKHOSI HAVE NO PLANS TO SIGN NEW PLAYERS

Responding to the heightened pressure, Motaung has explained why Kaizer Chiefs have no intentions of dipping into the transfer market.

“We won’t close the door if a special player becomes available,” Motaung said on Isolezwe. “If that happens, we will look at the situation.

“We are satisfied with the squad we have because we had players who were injured and they are now returning. We signed many players at the start of the season, and some of them have not played yet.

“It is not easy to join Chiefs, which is why some players take time to settle. They need to get used to the team so that everything can work properly.

“We do not want to keep changing the squad,” Motaung added.

NEWEST 11 SIGNINGS AT KAIZER CHIEFS

The previous club transfer window saw the Glamour Boys rope in 11 new faces. Several made an impact. Flavio Silva is the leading scorer with four goals, while Ethan Chislett and Nkanyiso Shinga are yet to step onto the match grass.

Lebohang Maboe and Asanele Velebayi displayed quality after they were available late on before the Africa Cup of Nations break in December.

Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Khanyisa Mako, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Luke Baartman have all shown promise.

Meanwhile, in 14 matches so far, Kaizer Chiefs have managed four wins, eight draws and two losses.

The two defeats came away from home, against Kabuscorp and Al Masry SC. Coming up next is a home fixture against Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday, 20 January.
