Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune has questioned the club’s decision to continue without head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
The 38-year-old retired keeper feels the Tunisian should have been given more time as he became the first coach in 10 years to win a trophy. Nabi guided Amakhosi to a memorable Nedbank Cup triumph in May and despite that, his future at the club has never been secured.
Kaizer Chiefs are yet to announce Nabi’s fate pending internal investigation, but the most likely outcome is that the coach will not continue.
“Yeah, it’s unfortunate what is happening at Kaizer Chiefs. Remember, for the past 10 years, Kaizer Chiefs hasn’t won silverware, and the coach (Nabi) now came and broke that curse,” Khune said as per Soccer Laduma.
“So, I wish they could have given him more time because you can see he was building a well-oiled machine, so it’s just unfortunate that things didn’t go well for him”.
“Hence, the club had to come to the conclusion to part ways with him. It’s just an unfortunate situation. I would have loved to see him continuing with the club, but again, Kaizer Chiefs are in business.”
Khune wants Nabi to stay at Chies
The former Bafana Bafana keeper said Kaizer Chiefs fans will forever remember Nabi for winning them their first trophy in 10 years despite his failures in the league.
The Tunisian tactician did not start the season with Amakhosi as he had to attend a family emergency. In his absence, his assistants Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze took over and secured three straight wins.
Upon his arrival, Nabi failed to maintain the momentum for three matches before Chiefs ‘suspended’ him. The two assistants are expected to continue this weekend as Amakhosi play Kabuscorp in the CAF Confederation Cup.
