Chiefs Give Injury Update – iDiski Times

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane has given an injury update ahead of their catch-up game with Cape Town City, naming two players who deserve to start.

The Glamour Boys will host the Citizens in a game, which both sides will want to win in order to keep their hopes in the top-two race alive.

The match was rescheduled from December after Chiefs failed to honour the fixture due to a serious Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena.

However, the PSL rescheduled the fixture – as well as the one against Golden Arrows, which Amakhosi lost 2-1 on Wednesday – after the SAFA arbitrator ruled in their favour.

Zwane has confirmed that not much has changed on the treatment table, with the long-term absentees still out, while Happy Mashiane needs to be assessed.

“We have everyone available, except for those who have been out for quite some time, like Lebo (Manyama), (Sfiso) Hlanti and Tower (Erick Mathoho) is coming back to full fitness,” he said during a press conference.

“Happy Mashiane is down with flu, I think it’s only those four players, otherwise, the rest are available for selection.”

Zwane, though, mentioned Phatutshedzo Nange and Kgaogelo Sekgota as two players who have looked good in training and could perhaps start the match.

“It’s a difficult moment in terms of preparations, but the guys look sharper than they have in the past few weeks, which is very good,” he added.

“We need some fresh legs. We’ve got players who deserve to play, who look sharp in training. A player like Nange and a player like Sekgota, we still have to decide who will make that impact and whether we use Sekgota as an impact player or should we start with him and Nange as well.

“But the boys look very fresh, especially those who have been playing for the past two weeks. I think that can give us that advantage or an edge, especially going forward.”

The match kicks off at 15:00 at FNB Stadium. Chiefs currently sit in fifth place with 39 points, while City are in third with 41. Both are chasing second-placed Royal AM, who have 45 points but played one more game.
