Chiefs fall to defeat at CT City

A disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership clash has left Kaizer Chiefs wondering what went wrong at DHL Stadium on Tuesday.

With a display that will cause Arthur Zwane nightmares, the Soweto giants struggled to threaten the home goalkeeper all night.

A goal from Darwin Gonzalez in the fifth minute of the showdown put the Glamour Boys behind.

The game calmed down a little bit as the first half drew on, although the visitors were still finding it difficult to settle into a rhythm and prolonged possession due to the relentless way the Cape club were denying them time and space on the ball.

With that, the Citizens came into the break 1-0 up against Chiefs.

Amakhosi had a couple of chances in the second stanza but failed to capitalize on their clear-cut opportunities.

Zwane threw on all the weapons he had on the bench as Amakhosi desperately chased the game with the hope of bouncing back stronger, but it was the hosts who grabbed the second goal through Nathan Fasika in the 62nd minute.

City’s defence was equal to the task, with a second goal allowing fans to enjoy a brilliant night of mouthwatering showpiece.

In the end, it was Eric Tinkler’s side who claimed all three points to move up from the bottom of the log standings.

All in all, a day to forget for Chiefs then, with one of the few positives being that Zwane now has a few days to work with his players on the training and fix the things that went wrong in this game before their MTN8 quarterfinal fixture against Stellenbosch on Sunday, 28 August at Danie Craven Stadium. The kick-off is at 15:00.

Meanwhile, Swallows FC secured a 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United at home.
