The agent of Barnard Parker has discussed the players’ future, while Kaizer Chiefs confirmed they will sit down with the club legend to involve him in a different capacity.

Kaizer Chiefs announced that Parker is among the players whose contracts were not extended at Naturena as the club embarks on a massive squad revamp.

As a consequence, Parker’s exit was confirmed, with his agent Mike Makaab revealing he knew for a few days already that Chiefs wouldn’t extend his client’s deal.

“Over the last two week it became clear that Bernard Parker wouldn’t be renewing his contract with Kaizer Chiefs,” he said.

“I’ve met with Bernard and we had a long discussion. The good thing with Bernard is that he’s a sensible person, he’s a wonderful professional and he’s a true gentleman and there’s no hard feelings.

“He’s had a wonderful 11 years at Chiefs, he’s won trophies, including back-to-back Premier League titles, captained one of the biggest clubs on the continent and proudly so.

“He’s played for the jersey and for the badge, he is in love with Kaizer Chiefs, he loves the football club.”

Makaab also stated that Parker would like to stay involved with the club, while his long-term outlook is fixed on coaching.

“We’ve had a lot of discussions, Bernard would deeply love to stay involved with the club in some capacity,”

“Ultimately he wants to do his coaching licenses and eventually get to the top license that you can get, which is the UEFA Pro license and we are busy embarking on that.

“But we also have a number of projects that we’re discussing with Bernard. He’s looked after his investments, he’s looked after his life. We’ve been preparing for this moment for a long time now.

“He’s got qualifications in sport psychology and sport management and Bernard is well setup for the rest of his life.

Meanwhile, Chiefs confirmed that they will hold talks with their former captain to have him involved in a different role.

“Kaizer Chiefs management will sit down with Parker to look at options of bringing him on board in a different capacity after his playing days. Announcements will be made soon,” the club stated on its website.
