Chiefs coach Zwane explains Sheppard handshake snub

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has played down any insinuation that there might be a problem between himself and his assistant Dillon Sheppard, describing the latter as a perfectionist like him.

Zwane was responding to questions from the media during the clubs’ open day in Naturena on Thursday.

The question comes after what appeared to be a handshake snub to Sheppard at the end of their 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants last Sunday.

A video clip circulated on social media platforms shows Sheppard trying to reach out to his superior for the usual end of the match handshake, a gesture which Zwane didn’t acknowledge.

ZWANE’s EXPLANATION TO THE MEIDA

When asked on Thursday, Zwane said he missed the gesture because of the disappointment with the results but described Sheppard as his second brother.

“I am not even aware of that, I am not even aware. I think someone tried to explain it to me and then I said I couldn’t see Sheppy at all,” said Zwane.

“I think my mind was elsewhere because I was a little disappointed because of the results. But I can tell you, the relationship we have with Sheppy is of a, I don’t know how I can put it, he is more like my second brother.

“We share a lot together and I have no doubt in him. Like I said earlier on in the season that with him I can sleep with no worries knowing that I have a brother next to me,” explained Zwane.

“So he is that type of a person, he is a good guy and he hates to fail at the same time. He is more like me, we are more like perfectionists, you know, both of us. I am happy to have someone like Sheppy next to me.”

Amakhosi have a difficult task against SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

They will be looking for a first win in three matches following draws against Marumo and AmaZulu.
