Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has confirmed Khama Billiat has returned to training and admits it’s pleasing to see Njabulo Blom returning to form.
Billiat, one of the senior figures in the squad and arguably one of the finest attackers in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) but has not lived up to his reputation at the club.
This season, he’s yet to open his account and has just one assist from the opening seven games before a knee injury ruled him for the games against Marumo Gallants and SuperSport United.
Zwane is hopeful that he may be available for selection for their first leg MTN8 semi-final this weekend against AmaZulu and revealed that Happy Mashiane and Sabelo Radebe are the other doubts for the game.
“We got a few knocks in Macufe, Sabelo Radebe… Happy did not train yesterday when we started, Khama is still doubtful, he also just started training yesterday,” Zwane said at Naturena Village on Wednesday morning.
“When it comes to fitness, he’s still not sure. I think the rest of the guys will be available if nothing happens during the course of the preparations.
“We’re looking forward to the game, we just hope that even those who are injured will be available by Friday because it will be matchday minus one and we want to be sure that we are ready for the game.”
In the case of Blom, who started the season poorly against Royal AM before being dropped from the first eleven, a contractual saga also blew up in the media – but Zwane has since brought him back into the team to feature in his preferred No.6-role – which has yielded a couple of promising displays.
“Good to see Njabulo playing and doing well, that’s the Njabulo we know and the one we want to see on the field,” Zwane explained.
“He’s one of the Kaizer Chiefs products and when you see these boys doing well, as a club we’re always happy for them.”
