Chiefs Boss Admits Former Players Always Show Up

Kaizer Chiefs Arthur Zwane wasn’t too keen to discuss the fact that former Amakhosi players tend to perform well against his side.

The Glamour Boys lost 1-0 to Sekhukhune United on Sunday, which has seriously dented the club’s hopes of finishing in second spot after they dropped to five points behind rivals Orlando Pirates in second spot.

There was a lot of noise ahead of the game, with former Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso saying his old club “will not win silverware” when letting go of too many of their experienced stars.

The comments were clearly not well-received at Naturena, with Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. calling them “tone deaf“.

But Cardoso followed his words with an impressive performance on the pitch, helping the Sekhukhune defense to prevent Chiefs from scoring.

While Cardoso had a shout for the Man of the Match award, another Chiefs player in Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya collected the gong.

After the match, Zwane was asked why he thinks former Chiefs players keep on performing against his – but he was very tightlipped in his answer.

“It’s always been the case,” he told journalists.

“When [former Chiefs] players are playing for other teams, they’re playing well against Chiefs.”

“It’s part of the game.”

Chiefs have a chance to get back to winning ways on Thursday when they will face relegation-threatened Chippa United in Gqeberha at 15:00.
