Chidimma Adetshina has pulled out of the Miss South Africa pageant just two days before the event.
The announcement came moments after the Patriotic Alliance (PA) filed court papers to stop her from competing.
The Department of Home Affairs announced on Wednesday that their investigation into Chidimma’s citizenship found possible fraud by her mother, who is suspected of stealing someone’s identity.
PA deputy president Kenny Kunene said they hope the case will be heard on 10 August at 10am and are waiting for confirmation from the senior judge.
“We are waiting until 4pm to confirm with the senior judge the allocation of the matter,” said Kunene.
But now it seems that won’t be needed.
Chidimma’s participation has been controversial because her father is Nigerian and her mother is Mozambican, though she was reportedly born and raised in South Africa.
