Former Orlando Pirates striker coach Scott Chickelday has laughed of questions whether he could perhaps return to South Africa to work with Kaizer Chiefs.
His work – together with the club’s technical team – seemed to bear fruit as the Buccaneers, who had only 10 goals in their first 15 league games, now netted nine times in just three matches in January.
But to the surprise of many, Chickelday has since left the club, as his stint was only on a short-term basis.
He is now back in England and continues his work there, but after his roaring success and the great work that Benni McCarthy is doing at Manchester United, some fans have suggested that other DStv Premiership clubs such as Chiefs should make use of his services or appoint their own striker coach.
Chickelday, though, has insisted his heart belongs to the Sea Robbers.
“It depends. I don’t think the Orlando Pirates supporters would be happy, they would lynch me if I went back to join Kaizer Chiefs (laughs),” he told iDiski Times in an exclusive interview.
“Oh, just like I said, my heart and everything’s with Orlando Pirates at the minute. So Orlando Pirates are very much my only target.”
He also suggested that he might come back to Pirates, where he had an overall great experience.
“Look, who knows. I might be back out there soon. I don’t know yet. So we’ll see,” he stated.
“But it was, like I said, a great experience, fantastic club and not just a fantastic club, but a fantastic culture.
“I was made to feel so welcomed by everyone in my time there. And like I said, it is a place that I would like to come back to.”
