Charges have been dropped against 95 Libyan nationals who were arrested at a suspected military training camp in White River.
The men, who appeared in the White River Magistrates’ Court on 15 August, were initially charged with breaking immigration laws.
Police had accused the men of lying on their visa applications, claiming they were coming to South Africa for training as security guards.
Authorities, however, suspected that the real purpose of their visit was military training.
Acting on intelligence received, the farm where they were found was raided by the SAPS and the Department of Home Affairs.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the discovery of the suspected training base, which led to a major raid on 26 July.
Now that the charges have been dropped, the men will be handed over to the Department of Home Affairs for further action.
The investigation into the activities at the farm is ongoing.
