Celeste Ntuli brings humour to Wegovy weight loss drug launch in Johannesburg

Johannesburg was buzzing on 13 and 14 August as pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk introduced Wegovy, a new treatment aimed at tackling obesity.

The launch went beyond a medical briefing, turning into a lively event filled with personal stories, panel conversations, and a dose of comedy from South African star Celeste Ntuli.

Ntuli, who has been open about her struggles with weight, had the audience in stitches while shedding light on the seriousness of obesity.

“I’ve tried everything,” she joked. “I once visited a sangoma who told me to drink pee to shed the kilos.”

Her honesty struck a balance between laughter and reflection, as she called for more compassion towards people battling weight issues.

The comedian urged society to support those on their weight loss journeys rather than shame them.

The event marked the official entry of Wegovy into the South African market, offering new hope for people seeking medical support in managing obesity.
