Castro: I Was Ready To Break My Leg For Chiefs

Leonardo Castro says that he was ready to break his leg for Kaizer Chiefs when the team qualified for the CAF Champions League final in 2021.

Castro’s time at Chiefs comes to an end this month, after the club opted not to renew their contract with the veteran.

The Colombian forward explains his emotions after getting injured at training and his mentality thereafter on Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“Soccer is unexpected and unfortunately I got injured while I was training for the second semi-final of the Champions league,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns player told MSW.

“So it was painful because I was playing 90 minutes with Samir and we were fighting up there to make things happen. For me it’s the first time I went to the hospital for surgery, for the first of 13 years of my professional career.

“So obviously it was painful, it was sad for me. When I saw my teammates and my team qualify to the final, Castro continued. “I put it in my mind like I need to be there either way in my 70 percent.

“I did my job, did my rehab, I couldn’t do the op(operation) at that moment because I was going to miss the final, but I spoke to the coach and I said look let me do my rehab, even if I’m going 70 percent, if you need me, put me there in the field.

“If I break my leg in the final, I break it, but I’m going to op afterwards. This is my mentality, this is how I take a final you know. These are things in football you never expect.”
