Carnell Continues Fairytale Start In MLS

St. Louis City head coach Bradley Carnell has continued his fairytale start in the Major League Soccer, with his side climbing back to the top of the log.

City bounced back after two defeats in a row against Minnesota United and Seattle Sounders, which had ended their five-match unbeaten run at the start of the Major League Soccer season.

Carnell’s side surprised everybody with the way they started the season, breaking the record of becoming the first-ever expansion team to win their first five games in MLS.

On Sunday morning, St. Louis continued their fairytale start and thrashed FC Cincinnati 5-1.

The South African mentor explained to the media that they had their expectations as the club, therefore they won’t be worried about what the external people expect.

“It was incredible just to see the boys hanging about with a bunch of friends, and just good teammates,” Carnell told the media.

“I heard some good spirit in the locker room, and it was our purpose to come out of the locker room as energized as we were for two hours.

“We never really wanted to speak about anything being broken. We’re the creators of our own destiny, we knew nothing was broken, nothing structural [despite the recent dip in results].

“We’ve got out of the blocks really quickly with the five wins, so we as a group set our standards really high. So how do we bounce back?

“Just try to keep it competitive and keep things jovial, fun, and loose but still serious. There’s always this ebb and flow, and we’ve got to balance between the chaos and the intensity that we bring.

“If external expectations are growing after eight matchdays, we know where those expectations were before matchday one, We’ll leave the outside chatter as that: outside chatter.

“What we discuss internally, what we want to achieve internally, stays with us and drives us every single day.

“We’re not playing that game. We’re playing the game that we want to control and dictate.”

While St. Louis have climbed back to the top of the log with 18 points from eight games, Njabulo Blom wasn’t part of the squad after picking up an injury.
