Carling Knockout draw heats up 2026/27 Premiership Season

The 2026/27 Betway Premiership season is heating up, with the draw for the Carling Knockout Cup confirming exciting Round of 16 fixtures that promise to add another layer of competition to South African football.

The draw, which was conducted on Wednesday, October 14, has set up intriguing clashes involving the country’s biggest clubs, with defending champions Orlando Pirates beginning their title defence against Milford FC.

Meanwhile, last season’s runners-up, Marumo Gallants, face a daunting challenge against Mamelodi Sundowns as they seek to navigate their way into the quarter-finals.

The fixtures have raised the stakes in the second domestic cup competition of the season, with the country’s top-flight teams now turning their attention to another opportunity to challenge for silverware.

Pirates begin title defence against Milford

Orlando Pirates will be determined to retain the trophy after lifting the Carling Knockout Cup last season.

The Buccaneers will face Milford FC, a fixture that presents the defending champions with an opportunity to make a positive start to their campaign.

However, Pirates will be aware that cup football can produce unexpected results, with lower-profile opponents often eager to upset established favourites.

Gallants face Sundowns test

Marumo Gallants, who finished as runners-up last season, have been handed a difficult assignment against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Limpopo-based outfit will need to produce a strong performance against the Brazilians, who remain among the leading contenders for domestic honours.

Sundowns, meanwhile, will be keen to make their mark in the competition as they continue their pursuit of silverware on multiple fronts.

Chiefs and other clubs discover opponents

Kaizer Chiefs will host TS Galaxy in another fixture that promises an intriguing contest, while Polokwane City will take on Siwelele FC.

Other Round of 16 fixtures will see Kruger United face AmaZulu FC, Golden Arrows meet Chippa United, Durban City take on Stellenbosch FC, and Sekhukhune United battle Richards Bay FC.

The draw has given all 16 clubs a clear picture of the challenge ahead as they prepare to compete for a place in the quarter-finals.
