Cardoso confirms injury setback for Zwane

Mamelodi Sundowns’ head coach Miguel Cardoso has provided an update on Themba Zwane’s injury.

‘Mshishi’ returned to action last weekend during Downs’ 3-0 win over Magesi FC but was forced to leave the field after picking up another injury. The 36-year-old has struggled with injuries since late 2024 when he sustained a problem with his Achilles during Bafana’s match against Congo.

Cardoso revealed that Zwane suffered a muscle injury against Magesi and should be out for a few weeks.

“Themba Zwane has a muscle injury, grade two, which will take him out of the team for a period of a little bit more than a month, around the month,” he told the media.

“Let’s see, it depends on how he can react to the treatment that he is going to receive. But obviously, he will be a player that we will have to protect in terms of his return to training and play.

“So, let’s go easy so that we can prepare him for the future because he is still an important player for us,” Cardoso concluded.

Zwane hasn’t featured much under Cardoso in the past few months and has mostly come from the bench in the matches he featured in.

Is Themba Zwane in Cardoso’s plans?

Zwane could be out potentially for four weeks, which means the Sundowns coach will need to prepare to play without the versatile midfielder in the coming matches. With Marcel Allende and Jayden Adams playing most matches, Mshishi’s future at Chloorkop might be coming to an end soon.

Should Zwane leave Downs?
