Cape Town City Sign Two, Release Two

Cape Town City have secured two new signings and released two players ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Citizens enjoyed an impressive end to the season with three wins and a draw to snatch fourth place ahead of Kaizer Chiefs and, while it didn’t match the feat of runners-up the season prior, there’s been reasons for head coach Eric Tinkler to be excited about.

Academy talents Taahir Goedeman, and Jaedin Rhodes came to their own as regular features in the first team while Patrick Fisher, Luphumlo Sifumba, and Luke Daniels showed some flashes of their immense potential.

But the clearout began early as Wayde Lekay was released before the end of the season, he is joined by Jordan Bender and Bertrand Mani out the exit door, while Lyle Lakay has returned to Mamelodi Sundowns.

With Lakay departing and Marc van Heerden signing a new contract, Tshegofatso Nyama has been lured from TS Galaxy.

And with Tinkler moving to a 3-4-3 formation, the need for a new centre-back was evident and the Citizens have addressed it by completing the towering DR Congo youth international Ramazani Tshimanga from Jeunesse Sportive Groupe Bazano on a long-term deal.

This publication reported in March that City had invited the 21-year-old for an assessment and they have since snapped him up to join compatriot Nathan Idumba Fasika on their books.
