Cameroon and Burkina Faso to determine Amajimbos’ fate

Calculators are out as Amajimbos’ fate in the CAF U17 AFCON tournament will be determined by the outcome of Cameroon and Burkina Faso this evening.

This comes after South Africa’s U17 men’s national team succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to Nigeria at Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui Stadium on Saturday night.

As a result, Duncan Crowie’s charges find themselves in third position with three points after three games in Group B.

AMAJIMBOS’ SITUATION

Following the disqualification of South Sudan, CAF adopted new rules to determine who goes through the next round of the tournament.

Currently, Amajimbos sit on [-3] goal difference, with the result from the Zambia game canceled out under the new rules adopted.

Meanwhile, Cameroon are on [-2] goal difference as they lost 2-0 against Mali in Group C.

On the other hand, Burkina Faso are on [-1] goal difference following their 1-0 defeat to Mali.

So, in order for Amajimbos to progress to the tournament’s quarterfinals, Cameroon must win with two goals or more, anything less South Africa are out, or Burkina Faso must win with one goal or more for Crowie’s charges to progress.

And if the game between Cameroon and Burkina Faso ends with a draw, South Africa are out.

‘WILL SEE HOW IT GOES’ – DUNCAN CROWIE

Coach Crowie noted that they are hopeful of a favourable result as their eyeballs will be glued to their screens tonight to see what happens.

“As far as watching last night’s game, things didn’t go our way. You know, things are so difficult,” told the media.

“If you look at South Sudan, if they wouldn’t be disqualified we would have been through before this game already with three points.

“So, I will see how it goes and will definitely be watching. It is what it is and we got to be sport’s persons. Congratulations to whoever goes through and wish everything of the best for the continuation of the tournament.”
