Bafana Bafana head coach admits there are several players who didn’t take their chance to impress and won’t be recalled for the November national team camp.
South Africa left the Belgian tactician elated on Saturday when a Themba Zwane-inspired display secured a 4-0 win over Sierra Leone but the same could not be said for the much-changed side against Botswana.
The front three of Ashley du Preez, Pule Mmodi and Khanyiso Mayo failed to yield any goals are amount much of a goal threat while the lack of urgency and pressing was notable in comparison to the high-octane display against the Leone Stars.
Broos admitted that some Premier Soccer League players maybe aren’t up to the standard of international football and went further on to state that they missed a chance to give him a selection headache.
“You know what I said, I’m not satisfied with what I saw and I think things are clear that there’s players who are not able to bring what you need at this level,” Broos said at FNB Stadium in the post-match press conference.
“I’m very sorry it’s like that, so this game [against Botswana] was very interesting for us, to see all those players who didn’t play so much in the past, to see them once in a whole game, so that means that we should take that in account for the next selection.
“It’s a pity for those players but those players won’t be with us anymore in November.”

When asked about Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s display and if there were any players who did catch his eye during the international camp this past two weeks, Broos said it’s not for him to discuss in the media but rather time will tell when he names his next squad.
“You know this is something for the staff meeting [to say who impressed me], I will talk about that with my staff, with Helman [Mkhalele] – we will see the results in one month when we come together,” the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winning coach said.
“So I don’t think it’s good for a coach to tell [the press] here of the report of players who won’t be there in November. You will see in November, it’s for sure, there will not be some of these players there anymore.
“You win and you lose with a team, not with one or two players but if in your team you have players who don’t achieve the level needed, then you play a game like today, so you can’t blame the others.
“And it’s not right for my side, to say this one or this one didn’t have that level and it’s their fault, no. As a team you make it and today, the team performance wasn’t good because we couldn’t achieve the level that we needed to have.”
