Broos Issues Injury Update – iDiski Times

Ahead of Bafana Bafana’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Morocco this week in Rabat, Hugo Broos has provided an injury update from the national team camp.

Bafana travelled to Morocco this past weekend, arriving in Rabat on Sunday, for their opening qualifier for the 2023 AFCON.

Broos said there have been injury concerns for three players, with SAFA already confirming Terrence Mashego did not travel with the team.

While Mashego is out, Broos says there are some concerns over Innocent Maela, but they will monitor him, while Ronwen Williams should start training on Monday.

“Mashego is out, with a meniscus injury,” Broos told SAFA media.

“So he’ll have to go back to Cape Town and [get an] operation. So it’s stupid because there was nothing happening, he’s just turned his knee, not in a duel or nothing.

“So okay, we miss him, there is no time to replace him, because there is visa and all the things, this is not really a problem.

“Maela is more fear. So he had an operation, I think, in December, the other side. Now he felt something, he is afraid when he will go 100% that again… So I think he will be ready for Thursday, so we have a little bit to be calm with him.

“And for Ronwen, there is no problem. It was a little bit swollen, his knee, after the game of Monday from SuperSport. But now, okay, he was doing exercises, but exercise for the upper body, nothing really with his legs.

“And from Monday he is again on training and he will play on Thursday.”
