Hugo Broos has explained that Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was not included in the Bafana Bafana squad because he picked up an injury.
The Bafana coach has announced his final 23-man squad to face Guinea and France, cutting down seven names from his preliminary squad.
The big talking point was Petersen’s absence after featuring for Amakhosi in goal since the restart of the league.
However, Broos explained that Petersen picked up an injury over the last week and was not available for selection.
“It’s a big problem. If you go to every club in PSL, you find always a foreign keeper and otherwise the others I think there are five South African goalkeepers, five or six, all the rest foreign,” Broos said during his announcement on SABC Sport.
“In those five, you have to choose three keepers, three good keepers, because it’s Bafana Bafana. So is it’s very difficult.
“Because Bruce was with us from the beginning, so he’s there again. But normally, it should be Petersen but he’s is injured.
“He was part of the squad but last week we get a phone call from the coach and he said ‘no, forget it. Peterson is out.’
“It was Ronwen, it was Bvuma, Mothwa and Petersen, those were the four keepers in the selection.”
