Brigitte Macron will present scientific and photographic proof in a U.S. court to prove she is a woman.

The French First Lady and President Emmanuel Macron are suing American commentator Candace Owens for defamation. This was after Owens repeatedly claimed Brigitte was born male.

BRIGITTE MACRON TO CLEAR ALLEGATIONS

Brigitte Macron’s lawyer, Tom Clare, said the couple had found the allegations “incredibly upsetting.” He confirmed that evidence would include scientific reports and photographs, according to BBC.

“There will be expert testimony that will come out that will be scientific in nature,” he told the BBC’s Fame Under Fire podcast.

“It is incredibly upsetting to think that you have to go and subject yourself to this, but she’s willing to do it. She is firmly resolved to set the record straight.”

CANDACE OWENS’ CLAIMS

Candace Owens has promoted the claim on social media, insisting she believes it to be true. In March 2024, she said she would stake her “entire professional reputation” on the allegation.

The rumour first circulated in 2021 after French bloggers made the claim in a YouTube video, according to NBC News.

The Macrons won a defamation case in France in 2024, but an appeals court overturned the victory in 2025 on freedom of expression grounds. The couple are appealing that ruling.

BRIGITTE AND EMMANUEL MACRON FILE A LAWSUIT

In July, the Macrons filed a lawsuit against Candace Owens in the United States. They accuse her of ignoring verified evidence in favour of conspiracy theorists.

Emmanuel Macron explained to Paris Match, “This is about defending my honour! This is someone who knew full well that she had false information and did so with the aim of causing harm.”

ACTION TO DISMISS THE CASE

Candace Owens’ lawyers have asked the U.S. court to dismiss the case.

They argue the court should not hear the case in Delaware because her businesses are not based there, and defending it would cause “substantial financial and operational hardship.”

The case highlights the growing global tension between misinformation, free speech, and personal dignity. It also shows how influential figures can fuel harmful conspiracies with real consequences.
