Cocaine, Alcohol And Psychiatric Medication Detected In Anele Tembe’s Toxicology Results
The inquest into the death of Anele Tembe has heard testimony that forensic testing detected traces of cocaine, alcohol and several psychiatric medications in samples collected from her body.
The toxicologist, whose identity has been withheld at their request, told the inquest that analyses of samples from Tembe’s stomach, blood and eyes identified the substances.
The reported findings included cocaine, alcohol, antidepressants, antipsychotic medication and a mood stabiliser.
Tembe, 22, died on 11 April 2021 after falling from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. She was engaged to the late rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, who was with her at the hotel shortly before her death.
The inquest is examining the circumstances surrounding her death, including whether it resulted from negligence or the unlawful conduct of another person.
The detection of these substances does not, on its own, establish the level of intoxication, impairment or whether any of them contributed to her death. Those questions must be assessed against the full toxicology evidence and other evidence presented to the court.
